HERRIFORD was unarmed. It is hoped that justice will overtake the murderer. Telegraph. TO THE HONORABLE TERRY H.CAHAL--Chancellor & c.of the State of Tennessee, sitting at Columbia: Complainants; ALEXANDER M.ROSBOROUGH, Chairman of the County Court of Maury County,Tennessee; GEORGE W.FLY, EDMUND R.PUCKETT, JOHN W.WESTMORELAND, DAVID L.WHITTAKER, HENRY HARRIS, JONATHAN S.HUNT, FRANKLIN A.BURKE, THOMAS D.WORTHAM, ANDREW SCOTT, WILLIAM R.MACK, JOSEPH HENDRON, JOHN T.FARIS,ELIAS C.FRIARSON, JAMES M.WHITE, ANDREW T.GRAY, ANTHONY G.GHOLSON, AUGUSTUS W.WORTHAM, RICHARD STOCKARD, ALVIS WILLIAMS, WILLIAM J.STRAYHORN, HENRY A.MILLER, JOSEPH FOSTER,DAVID R.SOWELL, JOHN D.OLIPHANT, MILES H.MAYES, AARON VESTALL, BUNLEY D.WALL, JAMES P.ADKINS, WILEY G.KIRBY, THOMAS WITHERSPOON, COLEMAN GOAD, HUGH C.HARRISON, PARKE STREET, JEREMIAH CRAFTON, SAMUEL W.AIKIN, JOHN GLENN, LOUIS W.HARDISON, WILLIAM SHARP, ESRA HARDISON, ROBERT BAKER,IROMA CLARKE, and ROBERT GLENN,citizens and Justices of the Peace for the county of Maury, and composing the body of the County Court for said County, and suing in behalf of themselves as well as the citixens of the said County, and DAVID C.MITCHELL,citizen of what is now called Lewis County, residing in the Maury Fraction of said County, and who sues as well for himself as for many other citizens residing in said Fraction, would respectfully represent to your Honor, that by an Act passed by the General Assembly of The State of Tennessee on the 21st of December,1843, the County of Lewis,on conditions specified in said Act,was authorized to be established of fractions taken,or to be taken from the counties of Maury,Hickman,Wayne and Lawrence. Complaintants charge that Commissioners were bound by the Act to ascertain the limits of Maury County before they could take any portion of her territory. But this condition they wholly failed to comply with, but proceeded in utter violation of the requirements of said Act,to take off a large portion of the Territory and Population of Maury, comprising Districts Nos.15 and 16 and a part of Nos.12 and 13,and being under the jurisdiction of said Lewis County.Complainants are advised that even if the Territory stricken off from Maury had not reduced said county below her Constitutional limits, that still Lewis had no right to the same, for the reasons which the Complainants will now state your Honor.By the Constitution of Tennessee,no new county can be established unless it have an area of 350 square miles, with a voting population of 450.The Act of the Legislature in strict compliance with the provisions of the constitution required Lewis to have 350 square miles. They charge that instead of 350 square miles, said county only has 310 square miles, including the entire Territory stricken from Maury County.
