G.J.PILLOW.The Ladies are requested to be present,in their carriages. LAWRENCEBURG CONVENTION--Our friend HORNE,of the Middle Tennessean, has given us a very life-like description (so say eye and ear witnesses) of the proceedings of the District Convention recently held at Lawrenceburg.Scene First: Three people decline to be Chairman. At length, COL.NIXON,of Maury accepted the honor.Resolutions in favor of GENERAL PILLOW for Governor, then came up and passed. Scene Second: An awful conflict over the code of "Rules and Regulations," as reported by the Committee to draft said codes. The proposition to admit proxies was the bone of contention.Messrs.McDUGAL and LAIRD, delegates from Wayne, were not present, the former being Providentially detained and the latter being a tailor, was compelled to finish a wedding suit and couldn't leave.McDUGAL had instructed MR.JONES of Hardin to cast the vote of Wayne, and the question arose whether he should do so,As it was stated that two thirds of both counties were for one man,and the remainder for another, this with other reasons was urged against the right of MR.JONES,but it finally carried, the said JONES should cast 13 votes for Hardin and 13 votes for Wayne.Amid "noise and confusion,"balloting was declared in order by the tellers. First Balloting: J.E.THOMAS--Lawrence Co.0; Giles Co.18; Wayne Co.0; Hardin Co.0; Hickman Co.12; Maury Co.12; Lewis Co.5; total:47. J.H. THOMAS--Lawrence Co.13; Giles Co.0; Wayne Co.13; Hardin Co.13; Hickman Co.1; Maury Co.6; Lewis Co.4; Total:50; Horrible Uproar. (this goes on through numerous ballots)The,Confusion-a motion to adjourn until 4th of July; and to adjourn till 1st Thursday August; Adjourned for 15 minutes.J.H.THOMAS won.We have only to inquire,in conclusion,as the Republican Banner has already done,"how is it that MR.THOMAS is to be sent back to Congress, although refusing to follow the CALHOUN clique." WE PUBLISH THE FOLLOWING--at the request of a friend.DEATH OF JAMES DICK. We are called upon to record the demise of an aged and most estimable citizen, one whose whole life was marked by deeds of active benevolence and by a conduct that calumny itself could not impugn; MR.JAMES DICK,one of the oldest merchants in our city, died on Monday last.He belonged to that small and deceasing class of citizens who were so intimately identified with the progress of New Orleans.JAMES DICK came to Louisianna 40 years ago.Himself and his brother, who died a few years since, were the original founders of a commercial firm, which under various mutations of name and vicissitudes of fortune, has continued to flourish to the present day.The title of the house was first N.and J.DICK.(rest of page torn off) MARRIAGES--In Maury County,on the 29th ult.,MR.AARON H.BULLOCK to MISS MARTHA HUNTER.
