THE DEATH OF SENATOR LEWIS--The New York Express is announcing the death of the HON. DIXON H.LEWIS, Alabama, which took place in that city on Wednesday, states that he was seized with inflamation on the chest on his arrival there three weeks ago, but was supposed to be recovering until Monday when his disease took an unfavorable turn. MRS.LEWIS and her son were present during his illness. BY TELEGRAPH--Memphis, November 6.A serious collision took place between the Whigs and Democrats in New Orleans on Saturday night the 4th inst. The Rough and Ready was burnt doen. HEWLETT's was mobbed by Democrats. BY TELEGRAPH--Memphis, November 7. LEVI NORTH of Stuckney's Circus, was dangerously wounded by a gun shot in a rencontre,near Hernango,Mississippi on Sunday Evening. BY TELEGRAPH--MAJOR T.B.FLOURNOY of Arkansas has challenged BORLAND,who would not accept. Much excitment in Little Rock, in consequence, BORLAND and FLOURNOY will have a street fight. FLOURNOY is determined on a fight. FROM TEXAS--A letter from COL. CLARK L. OWEN to J.B. SHAW, written at Gonzales on the 12th says: "tThe settlements on the Sandys, about 20 miles west of this have been broken up, and DR. BARNETT is supposed to have been killed. Twelve miles east of this, on Peach Creek, it is reported that the Indians have stole some horses. A small party has gone in that direction to ascertain the facts, a company has also gone west in pursuit of the Indians who killed DR. BARNETT. Two men named DAVIS were killed a few days since on the Clear Fork of Sandy. The companies of CAPTAINS VEATCH, LAMAR, SUTTON, and CRUMP, having been recently mustered out to service. One company remains to protect the entire south-western frontier, from the Station occupied by CAPT. HIGHSMITH's Company on the Llano to the Rio Grande, the distance being near two hundred miles. TRUST SALE--By viture of a deed of trust, executed to me by LEE HOLMAN, on the 12th day of August 1847, I will sell to the highest bidder, FOR CASH, at the market house in Columbia, on the 11th day of November, 1848, all the right, title,and interest of said HOLMAN to Lots Nos. 34 and 35, as designated and known in the plan of the town of Columbia, being the same on which said HOLMAN now resides.
