WE HAVE THE SATIFACTION--of announcing to our readers,that MR. BUCHANAN has yielded to the earnest solicitations of his friends in this Congressional District,and on Monday last announced himself as their candidate for Representative in oppition to MR.THOMAS. PARSON BROWNLOW--of the Jonesboro Whig,was attacked at night on his return from church,some weeks since,and severely injured by a blow from a club,in the hand of JOHN RYLAND,whom he had published as a deserter in Mexico.The Parson,of course will survive. THE MESSERS.MOSES--Editors of that sterling Whig paper,the Knoxville Register,have sold their offices to MR.J.MILLER McKEE,Editor and proprietor of the Knoxville Tribune,and the two papers are to be united under the editorial management of MR.McKEE. PROBABLE DEATH OF JUDGE MEEKER--The Matsville Eagle of the 1st inst., notices as follows: a rumor of the death of one of the Judges of Minnesota Territory; A painful rumor of the death of Judge B.B. MEEKER,by drowning in the Licking River,has been current for several days.On Wednesday last he left Flemingsburg for Carlisle on private business,and was last heard of just before reaching Licking River. He inquired of two persons-who were ignorant of the sudden rise-if the river was fordable,and was answered that it was.Since then he has not been heard of.Two messangers were dispatched from Flemingsburg on yesterday to go to his destination to trace him,with what success we have noy heard. COL.JOHN S.BRIEN--has assumed the editorial management of the Lebanon Packet. FOR SHERIFF--We are authorized to announce MUMFORD SMITH as a candidate for re-election to the office of Sheiff of Maury County. LAND AND NEGROES FOR SALE--By virtue of the degree of the Chancery Court at Columbus,I will on the 26th day of May 1849,at Stiverville, in Maury County,sell at public sale,100 acres of Land,of which JAMES M.RICHARDSON died seized; the land adjoins Stiversville.The same will be sold on a credit of one ans two years.At the same time and place the Administrators will sell seven or eight Negroes,belonging to said estate,on a credit until 25th December next.In each case, bond with good security will be required,and a lien retained on the property until the purchase money is paid.
