WE ARE REQUESTED TO SAY--that the citizens and Sons of Temperance of Spring Hill and vicinity,will unite in celebrating the Fourth of July next,with Public Speaking and a Barbecue.The Ceremonies of the Declaration of Independence,followed by an address appropriate to the days and its memories,from Hon.M.P.GENTRY,after which some of the most distinguished advocates of the Temperance cause will address the people. EX-PRESIDENT POLK--who has been prostrated by one of those attacks of diarrhea to which he is subject,is still,as we are sorry to learn,very low and the prospect of his recoveryexceedingly doubtful. THE DEATH--of GENERAL GAINES was announced in Washington on the 8th inst. GEN.ZOLLICOFFER--candidate for the State Senate having resigned the office of Comptroller of the Treasury,B.H.SHEPPARD,Esq.,of Nashville,has been appointed by the Governor to fill the vacancy. DANIEL EVANS to MISS EMILY D.JOHNSON. May 31st,MR.GEORGE W.HETFIELD to MISS ANN J.LAWHORN. June 6th,MR.SAMUEL M.DANIELS to MISS MARY BAKER. EXECUTOR'S SALE--On Thursday,the 28th June inst.,we will sell at the late residence of MRS.RUTH WILLIAMS,dec'd,on a credit of six months,the perishable property of said deceased,viz: one Pleasure Carriage, a Span of Harness Horses,and other horses and mules; one Cart; 2 yoke of Oxen; 8 Milch Cows and Calves; other cattle; about 100 head of Hogs; 40 or 50 of them Pork Hogs; 3000 pounds of Bacon; Lard; one large Stock Kettle; about 60 head of Sheep; about 75 Barrels of Corn; Hay; Sundry articles of Household and Kitchen Furniture.Bond,with good security will be required.All persons having claims against said estate are requested to present them,duly authenticated.June 14,1849.
