THE WESTERN STAR--We have received the first newspaper with the above 
name,printed at Pulaski; A.H.WILLEFORD,Editor and Proprietor.It is 
well gotten up,is Whig in politics,and will be an efficient auxiliary 
to the Whig cause.Success to you,friend WILLEFORD.

WE ARE GLAD TO LEARN--through the Maysville Herald,that the rumor of 
B.B.MEEKER's drowning has been quieted by his safe return.

TAX SALES--by virtue of an order to sale from the honorable Circuit 
Court of Maury County,at the January term,1849,I will proceed to 
sell for cash,to the best bidder,for the taxes of 1848,as the law 
directs,at the South door of the Courthouse,in the town of Columbia,
on the first Monday in July next,the following tracts of land,town 
lots,or parts of lots.or so much thereof as may be sufficient to pay 
the tax and costs on each severaltract or lot.In District No.7,65 
acres of land,belonging to the heirs of WILLIAM ROBERSON,adjoining 
the lands of B.F.MACON,J.RENFRO,& ESQ.WORTHAM.Valued at $325,tax 62 
1/2 cents,collector's fee $1.00,clerk's fee $1.50,printer's fee 
$1.50.Total:$4.62 1/2.  District No.7: 18 acres of land,belonging 
to BOWMAN TINSLEY,adjoining the lands of Mm.McKISSAC,JOHN RENFRO,
and others.valued at $164.tax 31 cents,coll.fee $1.00, clk.fee $1.50,
Total $4.31.  District 7; 24 acres belonging to JAMES WARD,adjoining 
the lands of JOHN MACK,and others.Valued at $19 1/2.tax 27 1/2 cents,
coll.fee $1.00,Clk.fee $1.50, Prt fee $1.50,Total $4.37 1/2.  
District 24; 200 acres of land belonging to YARBOROUGH'S heirs,
adjoining the lands of JEREMIAH DUNCAN,D.JACKSON,IROMA CLARK,and 
others.Valued at $200.tax 38 cents,coll.fee $1.00,clk.fee $1.50,prt.
fee $1.50,Total $4.38.  District 9; Ward No.2,Columbia,one lot,No.
191,adjoining the lots of D.FOLSOM,M.HELM,and others.Valued at $100.
