HATCHER, EDITOR COLUMBIA, TENNESSEE THURSDAY APRIL 8, 1852 WE ARE AUTHORISED--to say,that RUSSELL HOUSTON will attend at Mt. Pleasant on Saturday,the 17th inst.,and address the people of that section on the subject of the railroad. MRS.EDMONDSON--formerly of this place,has taken charge of that capital hotel,The Verandah,in Nashville. BROKE JAIL--On Sunday morninh last,three white men and three negroes made their escape from the Nashville jail.MR>GOODWIN,the jailor,was attacked in the outer passage by the prisoners,who overcame him and escaped. HOMICIDE--The Union of yesterday learns verbally that a difficulty of fatal character occurred at MRS.MERRIWETHER's,in the Western District, last week.W__T H.HUMPHREYS,ESQ.,addressed the people in that vicinity on the subject of railroads,and after speaking,a MR.EDWARDS,desiring to subscribe stock,stepped into the store for that purpose.While in the store,he was assaulted by the owner,MR.WATSON,whose father EDWARDS had killed in a difficulty some sixteen years before.WATSON first fired upon EDWARDS,and afterwards assaulted him with various missles. He was shot by EDWARDS and very soon expired.EDWARDS was arrested, tried and acquitted on the ground of self defence.-NASHVILLE WHIG. NOTICE--By Order of Chancery Court,made at last September Term 1851, I will proceed to sell at the Court house in the town of Columbia, on the first Monday in January next,on a credit of twelve months, a negro girl named SARAH,belonging to the estate of JAMES BINGHAM, dec'd.Bond and Security required.December 11,1851.HENRY FOSTER, Commissioner.
