Best Copy available. Minor Wilks' Will Record Sept 1., 1829 The last will and Testament of Minor Wilks of Maury County and State of Tennessee. I Minor Wilks considereth this union only of this natural life and being of sound mind and memory blessed be God for the same do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following wills (that is to say) First I give to my beloved wife Mary one black colt horse and his saddle and bed and furniture that I got with her except one iron gray horse and also one other bed and furniture and one third of the of the land where on I now live with the household furniture to last two bed and bedsteads and furniture, one Chest excepted during the lifetime or widowhood and at her death or marriage as the case may be all the land where I live to be sold and the money to be divided between my children, namely John Wilks, Burael Wilks, Thomas W. Wilks, David Wilks, Sally Wilks & Elizabeth G. Wilks, William Wilks, and Josia Wilks (that is to say) as I have already given John Wilks to the amount of fifty dollars and Burael Wilks I have given to the amount of twenty five dollars and I have given David Wilks to the amount of fifty dollars and Thomas Wilks I have given to the amount of ninety four dollars fifty cents and I have given to Sally Spring to the amount of seventy five dollars wich several sums of money I wish to be taken out of their shares of this money arriving from the land so as to make the other above mentioned children equal with them. I have already given my son Richard to the amount of two hundred and eighty five dollars making his full share of my estate. I give my daughter Jane S. Wilks ten dollars wich is her full share of my estate. (line crossed out ) Also I give to my daughter Elizabeth G. Wilks one feather bed and furniture equal in dollars to the bed I give to my wife and a horse and saddle to be worth one hundred dollars. I also give my son William Wilks an equal (word crossed out) part (illegible) the rest of my children of my land when it is sold. I give my son Josia Wilks a bed and furniture or the (illegible) of it in money and a horse and saddle to be worth eighty dollars when he becomes of age and I wish him to be sent to school till he is learnt to reade and write and learnt the arithmetic through the Rules of three. The balance of my stock of horses, cattle, hogs, & sheep, wagon and plantation tools I wish sold at publick auction and the too thirds of my plantation to be rented out for the support of and in order to purchist the horses and saddles which I have willed to my children Elizabeth G. Wilks and Josia Wilks as they become of age or marry which is also to be taken out of those shares of the land money or so reentered for as to make them equal with my other sons John Wilks, Burael Wilks, Thomas Wilks, and David W Wilks and also Sally Spring when its land is sold after paying all my just depts I hereby appoint my worthy friend James Campbell sole executor of this my last will and testament and hereby Revoking all former wills by me made In (illegible) whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 10 day of December the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty eight.
