He was born in 1765 in Virginia. He was the son of Hezekiah Witt. He enlisted in North Carolina troops in 1781 under Captain William Little and Colonel Archibald Little. He married Elizabeth Mayo. Their children were: Hezekiah, Valentine, Mary Burgess, William and Ephraim. Note. Burgess Witt died in Monroe County, Tennessee, December 16, 1843.
