     JOHN H. EVANS  To  WILLIAM S. WISDOM

     I, JOHN H. EVANS, being justly indebted to WILLIAM S. WISDOM in the

     following sums say note due 25th December 1856 for one hundred and

     two dollars and also one other note the 1st day of February 1859 for

     eighteen dollars and 70 cents.  Also, one other note due 25th day of

     December 1858 for seventy nine dollars and 99 cents.



     and feeling anxious and desirous to secure the said WISDOM in the

     aforesaid sums of money due and owing as aforesaid, I have this day

     bargained and sold and doth by these presents bargain, sell, and

     deliver unto the said Wisdom and unto his heirs, etc the following

     property to wit:



* One ox waggon [sic] and 

* 2 yoke of oxen being the same that I purchased from ASA SOUTHERN 

* One other yoke, one steer, red and white and the other a black brindle 

* One dun heifer 

* One clock 

* One half of a wagon at Bennett's Shop



     It is further understood between the said WISDOM and myself that all

     of the above named property is to be and remain in my possession

     until the first day of February 1859 and, should I fail to pay and

     fully satisfy all of said notes on or before that time, that then

     and in that case, I hereby authorize the said WISDOM or his agent to

     take possession of all the described named property and advertise

     and sell the same to the highest bidder for cash after giving 10

     days' notice of the time and place.  If the property brings more

     than I may be owing on said notes, I am to have it, but if less, it

     goes to my credit.  



     Given under my hand and seal this 18th day of January 1858.
