Tn Written: October 7, 1918 Last will and testament of John Wiley Shannon. I John Wiley Shannon, of the county of McNairy State of Tennessee, being over twenty one years of age and of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make, publish and declare this, my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore at any other time made. First:I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first and fully paid. Second: I direct that my wife, Julie Shannon shall have the privilege of remaining on my homestead as long as she may live if she so desires, and I direct that the rents revenues and profits of my estate shall be used for her support if the same should be necessary; and if it should be necessary to sell any of my property in order to support her in the same style and manner in which she has been accustomed. I authorize my executor, hereinafter mentioned, to use such part of the body of my estate as may be necessary if the same should be necessarey for the support of my said wife. Third: I further direct my executor hereinafter named to place $100.00 in cash in some good reliable bank which will pay interest on same, and when my grandson Willie Shannon shall become twenty-one years of age, I direct my executor to give him the same $100.00 with such interest as may be accumulated. The said Willie Shannon will be sixteen years of age on his next birthday which is Nov. 13th. 1917. If the said Willie Shannon should not live to be twenty one years of age, I direct that my executor hereinafter mentioned give the said $100.00 to my daughter Quiller Laster and her children Fourth: I direct that there shall be a tombstone placed to the following graves in the event I do not place them there while I am living: Willie Shannon, Sarah Shannon, Emma ______ , Mary Shannon, Julie Shannon and my own grave the price to be paid for said tombstone not to exceed $12.50 each and I direct my executor hereinafter mentioned to purchase the said tombstones and have them erected paying therefore out of my estate. Fifth: such property as shall remain on hand at the death of my said wife, I give to my daughter Quilla Laster and her children, and I hereby direct my executor to turn the same over to her at the death of my said wife taking her receipt therefor. Sixth: I direct that my executor hereinafter named see that my wife , Julie Shannon is properly supported and cared for as long as she may live, and to use the rents revenues and profits of my estate for that. If necessary, I direct him to sell any or all personal property which I may own for the purpose of properly supporting her and of paying the expenses hereinabove enumerated; and in the event there should not be enough personal property to pay the said expenses and to pay for the proper support of my wife, I hereby authorize and empower him to sell my real estate any or all of the same , either at public or private sale as his judgment may direct and I empower him to execute and deliver deeds thereto to the purchaser thereof. I further give him full power and authority to manage and controll my estate in such manner as he may see fit and as his good judgment may dictate. Seventh: I hereby nominate my friend W.B. Wilson of Corinth Mississippi to be the executor of this my last will and testament, on his entering into bond in the sum of $1000.00 and I hereby relieve him from making any annual or final account or of making any inventory of my estate, or of making any report to any court or of obtaining any orders of any court for winding up my estate but my executor, W.B. Wilson may if he so desires and thinks best, submit a final account of my estate after the death of my said wife. In witness whereof I have signed my name in the presence of T.J.Dixon, L.F. Carmichael and George Jones, whom I have requested to become attesting witnesses hereto. This 7th day of Oct. 1918 John Wiley Shannon Witness T.J. It may be Davis or Dims, not sure. John Wiley Shannon (b.Dec. 1857 McNairy Co. TN) was the son of Mary Null Shannon and I.W. or J.W. Shannon, difficult to read on census.
