MONROE COUNTY, TN - MILITARY - Elizabeth Hickey, Civil War Widow's Pension Application --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Monroe Co, TN Civil War Widow's Application for Pension Abstract Submitted by: dianeh@sfcn.org (Diane Heap) Civil War Union Pension B Thomas Hickey Pension application # 144,825 Elizabeth Hickey, widow of Corporal Thomas Hickey of Company A, 1st Tennessee National Guards. Thomas enrolled 1 August 1863, mustered in September 29, 1863. He was captured 3 November 1863 and died a prisoner of war on 2 February 1865. Elizabeth alleges their marriage date to be 27 September 1854. Two witnesses testify that they were present at the marriage of Thomas Hickey and Elizabeth Miller in Cherokee County, North Carolina. They were married by Noah Higdon, a clergyman. Mr. Higdon died in 1864. She states that her marriage record was destroyed by fire. The children born to Thomas Hickey and Elizabeth Miller are: Sarah Hickey, born 2 July 1857 Caroline, born 13 April 1859 James, born 17 December 1861. There is a statement included by Mary Allen and Caroline Allen of Cherokee County, NC who were present at the birth of all three children. Martha J. Allen and Joseph Spencer of Loudon County, Tennessee solemnly swear that they are neighbors of and have been acquainted with Elizabeth Hickey for 10 years as near neighbors. When Elizabeth applied she was a resident of Sweetwater, Monroe County, Tennessee. Her application was filed in August of 1869.
