JOSEPH CATHCART



   Joseph Cathcart applied for revolutionary pension while living in Monroe

County, Tenn., in 1832 when he was 87 years of age. He was born in Ireland about

1745. He enlisted in South Carolina troops under Captain Turner, Colonel John

Winn and General Thomas Sumter. He aided in the capture of the British at

Caldwell's Place. He was captured by Tories under command of Captain Rogers and

sent to Camden to be tried as a spy*
