He was then 80 years and 10 months old, and was therefore born about February 15, 1752. He was born in King and Queen County, Virginia. His father, whose name is not given, moved when Spencer Coleman was about two years of age to Stafford County, Virginia, and when he was fifteen years old to Shenandoah County, Virginia. Spencer Coleman married while residing in Shenandoah County when he was about 23 years of age and moved to Seven Mile Ford in Western Virginia and there joined Captain Francis' Company, Colonel William Campbell's Virginia regiment He served three months as a private, guarded the lead mines on New River and marched to Big Glades against the Tories. He served three months under Captain Wilson. He moved to a point near Abingdon, Virginia, and served three months in Colonel Arthur Campbell's Virginia regiment and was out against the Cherokee Indians. Soon after the close of the Revolution he moved to Big Pigeon River, Cocke County, Tennessee, and in 1826 he moved to Monroe County, Tennessee.
