He was born in 1760. He enlisted in April or May 1781 in Virginia troops while he was living in Augusta County, some of his officers being Capt. Samuel McCutcheon, Capt. Francis Long, Col. William Bowyer, Col. McCrary, Col. Hubbert. He was in the battle of Hotwater. He moved to Tennessee after the Revolution. He died in Monroe County, April 6, 1845. His widow, Hannah Harrison Steele, applied for widow's pension while living in Jefferson County, Ala., Aug. 6, 1855, when she was 78 years of age, therefore born 1777.
