Hale NOEL T. ALLEY, of Port Royal, Tennessee, is one of the men who have found their success near home, for he was born in Robinson [sic] county and has spent all of his life in the vicinity of his present home. Mr. Alley is well known throughout the county, and has attained a reputation for honesty and uprightness that has gone far toward making him. A successful merchant. He has been in the mercantile business for only a few years, having previously been a farmer, but his steadily growing trade is proof beyond a doubt that he is well adapted to the mercantile business. Noel T. Alley was born in Robertson county, Tennessee, on the 12th of March, 1861. His father was Robert Alley, who was a native of the state of Virginia, where he was born in 1815. He was only a baby when his parents moved into Tennessee and settled on a farm in Cheatham. Here the lad grew up and received his education. He learned the trade of a saddler, and locating in Turnersville, followed this occupation throughout his life. His death occurred in 1870, when Ms son Noel was a mere child. Robert Alley held the rank of colonel in the state militia, but he never had an opportunity to go to the front. He was fairly successful in his business, and held a prominent position in the community, serving as justice of the peace for a number of years. In polities he was a Democrat, and in the fraternal world he was a member of the Masonic order. Mr. Alley married Sarah Stark, who was born in Robinson [sic] county, Tennessee, in 1830. They became the parents of four children, three of whom are now living. In addition to Noel Alley, these are James, who is a farmer in Montgomery county, Tennessee, and Earnest, who carries on the same occupation in the same county. Robert Alley and his wife were active members of the Methodist Episcopal church. Noel Alley was the eldest of his father's children, and growing up in the days just after the Civil war, his youth was not an easy one. He was educated in the country schools and early in life began to work on a farm near his home. He continued as a farmer, and as the years, passed he managed to accumulate quite a sum of money, until in 1908 he was able to buy an interest in S. E. Guthrie's general store, in Port Royal, and since that time he has managed this store with considerable success. He carries a well kept up stock of goods and has developed a very satisfactory trade. In addition to his mercantile business he is the owner of a good farm, and holds the position of postmaster of Port Royal. Mr. Alley is not married, and devotes most of his time to his business-interests. Like his father and mother his religious faith is that of the Methodist Episcopal church, and he is an active member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of Port Royal, being past grand master in this order. In polities Mr. Alley is a member of the Democratic party.
