That prior to his entry into the service above named he was man of good sound physical health; being when enrolled a farmer. White ORIGINAL INVALID PENSION Claim No. 154563 Solomon Potter, Private, Company F, 1st Reg’t Tenn. Vol. Infy., Rockwood, Tenn. August 7, 1889 We hereby certify that in compliance with the requirements of the law we have carefully examined this applicant, who states that he is suffering from the following disability, incurred in the service, viz: injury to ribs and shoulder from a fall and deafness and disease of eyes. Pulse rate per minute, 84; respiration, 20; temperature, normal; height 5 feet 10 ½ inches; weight, 142 pounds, age, 69 years. He makes the following statement upon which he bases his claim for Original. I received injury to ribs and shoulder by falling while on a night march in Ky in the year 1861. I contracted deafness in London Ky in 1861 or 62, which was produced I think from the affects of cold. I contracted disease of eyes at Kingston Tenn. in 1862 or 63. From all said troubles have troubled me more or less ever since. Occupation of farmer. Able to perform a little over ½ manual labor. Upon examination we find the following objective condition: On examination of ribs of left side which claimant claims is the side that was injured, we are unable to discern any injury of said ribs or side now existing or ever having existed. On examination of left shoulder we find no ankylosis crepitation nor any symptoms of injury of said shoulder. We find left shoulder and arm ½ inch smaller in circumference than its fellow but claimant being right handed is the only way we can account for the difference in measurement of the shoulders and arms. On examination of ears we find both ears impacted with wax. On removal of wax we find chronic inflammation having existed of the internal ears and lymphomas producing thickening of lymphomas but no perforation of same. Claims not to hear watch only on pressure. On examination of eyes with ophthalmoscope we find claimant… From the existing condition and the history of this claimant, as stated by himself, it is, in our judgment, highly probable that the disability was incurred in the service as he claims and that it has not been prolonged or aggravated by vicious habits. He is, in our opinion, entitled to a 4/18 rating for the disability caused by deafness, 4/18 for that caused by disease of eyes. /s/ J.A. Sewell /s/ J.C.
