Hale WALTER C. HONEA. As our great commonwealth grows older and more prosperous more and more attention is given by its people to the cultural side of life, and the love and appreciation of music especially has been making gratifying development. The business in this connection is therefore one that is growing and is of increasing profit. Identified with this line of business activity is Walter C. Honea, a music dealer at Union City, Tennessee who handles different makes of the standard pianos and piano players of the day, and in fact everything along this line, including popular and standard music publications. Mr. Honea was born in 1869 in Texas, a son of Thomas L. and Margaret (Curlee) Honea, both natives of Tennessee. In 1857 the parents removed from Tennessee to Texas, where the senior Mr. Honea engaged extensively in the mercantile business and where he remained until his death. Of the twelve children in this family, seven are now living (1912) and Walter C. is eighth in order of birth. The father of Thomas L. Honea and the grandfather of our subject was a native of Ireland who emigrated to the United States in 1827 and became an early settler in Tennessee. He had two sons and a daughter and each took worthy and prominent places in society. Walter C. was reared in Texas and received his education there. When but a very young man he launched out into the music business and now has had full twenty-five years of successful experience in this line, having been located in different states during this period. He established his present business at Union City in 1911 and already has built up a gratifying trade. His business room measures 25 to 100 feet and is stocked with Doll & Sons, Hallet & Davis, Stodart, Lexington, Conway and other make of pianos, as well as piano players and a large assortment of graphonolas. In music publications he carries a full line of the latest popular music and is also prepared to supply all demand for the standard works of music composition. He has in his employ an expert piano tuner and in every way is equipped to furnish Union City and its vicinity with all the facilities in his line that a city music house could supply. Mr. Honea has been twice married. In 1889 Miss Julia Wellbanks became his wife and to their union were born two children, both of whom with the mother are now deceased. In 1907 he took as his second wife, Miss Ora Mahan. In fraternal associations Mr. Honea is a member of the Knights of Pythias.
