Powell ********************************************************************************************************** Antioch Baptist Cemetery near Hornbeak, TN LOCATION by Doris DeBord: Go through Hornbeak toward Reelfoot Lake and about one mile outside of Hornbeak on the right is the Antioch Church and Cemetery. You can see the Church and Cemetery from the highway. I hope this helps. Dotti's "Common's" History: Antioch is a small church west of Hornbeak on the Lake Road. A section marked Watkins, 1931, had burials dating to the 1869 death of Lewis Jones, and maybe before, according to family history. The four names mentioned in the Obion County Cemetery Book II are J. H., D. J., Bobie and Pat. J. H. is Jim Henry Watkins who died at the home of Genie Commons. D. J. was David Johnson Watkins his brother, from a photo and Pat and Bobie were his wives. Genie gave lot in the area for the last of the two. One died in 1931 and Jim Henry had the arch put up. A portion of the Old Cemetery is across the road from Antioch Baptist Church. In that area there is a low and almost ground level cement wall about 30 feet long. In that an enclosure, from family lore, Dotti adds several names from information passed from her grandmother to her mother and to her. Watkins, Mary Jones (w/o James T. d/o Iredell and Martha Jones Correction about family buried in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. I stated that Lewis H. Jones and his wife, possibly named Betty, were the parents of Martha Commons and Mary Watkins, also buried in the same family site. The name of the father should have been, Iredell Jones and his wife, Martha Huey Jones. Lewis H. Jones was a brother to Martha and Mary and from the size of the plot and the members of the family I know for certain to be there, he is probably not buried in that particular spot. Sorry about that. dotti Across the road on eastern side of the church are other family graves. Following not in the cemetery book as it is located in the old part of the cemetery way in the back. Most people don't go back that far. There is evidence that there were more tombstones at one time back there, but they are missing. Lockey S.
