CLAPP MOORE 25 MAY 1973 Debbie Lillian (Clapp) Moore R.R. 3 Mayfield, KY 42066? May 25, 1973 Thursday May 24th we visited the Cemeteries in Union City TN and also Shady Grove Church and the cemetery. We failed to take along some ordinary chalk as we were not really prepared to go but did some copying of the inscriptions on tombstones. We found many Curlins that were never found on our previous visits to Shady Grove Cemetery. This is a Methodist that is still in use located about 1.5 or 2 miles from Union City, TN in Obion County. We drove around over the country roads that our great great grandfather Lemuel Prince Curlin had helped to clear out paths in 1825 and later. We visited City East Cemetery now called the Confederate. The first Curlin grave we saw was the graves of Thomas Ransom Curlin and wife Elizabeth (Sevier) Curlin. Our time being very limited we did not copy the graves of the George daughter and son in law of Thomas R. Curlin. We hope to do this some time in the future. We went to the White-Ransom Funeral Home for our information. Confederate Cemetery - [Formerly City East/East View/City View ?] To East View They were very nice to direct us to Church Street on through Union City to the Cross by the bypass South Miles or ? Avenue; The City's water tank is very near the Cemetery where many Curlins and their descendants are buried. We needed much more time to make sure that we copied their stones. City View (Confederate) Thomas Ransom Curlin and many of his family are buried in this Cemetery known by the Confederate Cemetery now. R.T. Curlin & wife Virginia lived in Tenn. Thomas R. We visited three cemetaries. Brown of Charleston MO some time before 1989. Mrs. Brown sent it to Wayma Richards of Brownsville TN on 6 Sep 1989. Wayma Richards sent it to me 24 Feb 1997. I have transcribed this document with my own spelling & punctuation revisions. I tried to keep the original thought going but wanted to clean it up a bit. All notes indicated by [ ] are by me. The two pages of typewritten notes by Mrs. Moore are almost identical, however there are a few discrepancies that I noted. Information was slightly different in both, hence the reason for transcribing both - Kim Curlin Wettroth
