CSA 7th Tennessee Cavalry Elizabeth Atkins Taylor, wife of W. F. Taylor, Jan 13, 1822 - April 15, 1891 Mary Taylor, Daughter of Dr. Emerson A. & Mattie (Martha E. Crittendon) Taylor, Sept 7, 1887 - Sept 11, 1887 Infant Son of Dr. Emerson A. & Mattie Taylor, Born and Died June 28, 1870 Cemetery Index Short Index The following from; wtaylor@widomaker.com March 24, 2001 The plot containing the cemetery, belonged to the TAYLOR family, and was listed as "The TAYLOR Cemetery on the TAYLOR Farm." in family records, but the location was lost for a time. William F. (Frederick?) is my ggg grandfather. His father, Frederick 1795-1843, is not in the family plot, and I have references that he is in the Cane Creek Cemetery, but am not sure. Part of that cemetery is grown up in trees and bushes and he is not listed as being buried there. In July 2000 I was in Martin and went looking for the TAYLOR cemetery. By almost sheer luck, and knocking on a few doors, I found it. Then I found out that Eugene McSPADDEN had owned the house in front of it, now owned by Mary Jane and Gene TURNER. My sister and I both remember visiting "Mr. Eugene" when we were children with our Grandfather, Dr. Lemuel Emerson TAYLOR, a Martin dentist. BUT he never said anything about his Grandmother and Grandfather being buried some 50 yards away, nor did he ever tell my Father. My Father was named for Lt. Col. William F. (Frederick?) TAYLOR as far as we know. I'm still trying to pin down his middle name. Dad knew nothing about his Great Grandfather, or the location of the family plot, and we all were born and grew up in Martin. Lt. Col. William F. TAYLOR was quite a Civil War hero. He is listed 32 times in the history of the Seventh TN Cavalry CSA in a book* that was written by a Private in Company A, William's company. That might explain why he is mentioned so many times. The best part about the book -- there is an engraving of William. No one in the family, to my knowledge had ever seen a picture of him! I have William F.'s fathers name Frederick TAYLOR 1795-1843. He died in Obion, but I have been unable to find his grave. Frederick is my Stone Wall. He moved to Obion Co. from Stewart County about 1826. I know from the 1830 census that he had 5 children and a wife, but William was the only one who we had a name for, nor did I have Frederick's wife's name either. In searching the Obion census records I finally saw a notation that Mary TAYLOR b.1798, and George TAYLOR b.1828, lived next door to William. His Mother and Brother. Finally. If anyone comes across their death records I would appreciate hearing from them. I believe George is buried in the Stovall cemetery near Mt. Pelia. I have no idea where Frederick and his wife are buried. He was a prosperous farmer and I would imagine there would be nice gravestones for them somewhere. *THE SEVENTH TENNESSEE CAVALRY (CLOTH) The Seventh Tennessee Cavalry - YOUNG, JOHN PRESTON, A History. 227 pp., illus., roster, cloth, Book Number: 2091 /Morningside Bookshop, 260 Oak St., Dayton, OH 45410, 1-800-648-9710, Fax: 937-461-4260; first published in Nashville in 1890 and this is a reprint and is available for sale. It has a roster of all companies and quite a few pictures of the men in the companies, officers and privates also. There were Black members of Company L listed also. The commander of Company A, Lt. Col. William F. Taylor was from Obion County, enlisted in Memphis. I am not sure where the other men were from, but suspect locally.
