All Rights Reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/tn/tnfiles.htm ********************************************************* State of Tennessee ) Overton County ) SS On this 24th day of February AD One thousand eight Hundred and fifty one personally appeared before me a Justus of the Peace within and for this County and State aforesaid Amelia Poston aged fifty nine years a resident of Overton County in the State of Tennessee who being duly Sworn according to law declares that she is the widow of Richard Poston deceased who was a private in the Company commanded by Captain David Williams --- in the 3rd Regiment of Tennessee Militia commanded by Colonel Stephen Copeland in the war against The hostile Creek Indians that her said husband was drafted in Overton County, State of Tennessee on or about the 20th day of January AD 1814 for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of three months and was hon erable discharged at Fayete Ville Tennessee which facts will appear upon the records of said Regiment and Muster Rolls of said Company. She states that her said husband received a certificate of discharge which is lost or misplaced so that she cannot com- mand it She further states that she was married to the said Richard Poston in Overton County, State of Tennessee on or about the 15th day of December AD 1809 by one Stephen Copeland a Justus of Peace for said County of Overton and that her name before her said marriage was Amelia Copeland that her said husband died in Pulaski County in the State of Missouri on the 30th day of January AD 1843 And that she is still a widow. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which she may be entitled. She states that there is no public or private record of her said marriage as she knows of and there fore relies upon the testimony of disinterested persons who knew her in the life time of her husband. her Amelia X Poston Mark Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written. Copeland, Henry Dillon all men of veracity and good moral character intilled to full credit and made oath in deed form of law that they are not in any way inter- ested in the (???) of the above declaration and that they have been personally acquainted with the above named Richard Poston and Amelia Poston for thirty years previous to the death of the said Richard Poston and know them to have lived For that time as man and wife and nothing to the Contrary ever having come to our knowledge And that they have raised a large family of children and have ever been reported to be man and wife. Lacy JP Page 2: Not intermarried but continues the widow of the said Richard Poston she states that she received a bounty land warrant for forty acres under the act of Copeland (?) Tennessee 28th September 1850 to (?) wit (?) and not rejected and that she sold the same to _??_ respectable merchants of Livingston, Tennessee. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the acres of bounty land to which she may be entitled under the Act of Tennessee this 8 the day of March 1855 granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military ----- of the -------- --------- The applicant G.
