PA Troops Rev War 1841 [On October 12, 1941, a marker was dedicated by the Daughters of American Revolution to the memory of Francis Fergus as a Revolutionary War soldier. The dedicatory service was held in the old Ditty Cemetery, about one-fourth mile from Ditty, on the left of the road leading from Ditty to Baxter, Tennessee. This place is not far from the town of Sparta. The program included the Pledge of Allegiance, "America", the ritual by the Rock House Chapter, D.A.R., and the unveiling of the marker by Miss Lorraine Mitchell, a descendant of Francis Fergus. [Martha Ann Farley wife of William M. Fergus] This cemetery is in a little stand of trees on a hill on the farm of a Mr. Lillard Maxwell at Ditty Corners, TN. [The cemetery is in disrepair as cattle roam over the gravesites and have broken many stones. There will be a Ditty Cemetery Restoration Project beginning in April, 2000 to repair the tombstones, fence the area, and hopefully establish a trust for the cemetery to be cared for in perpetuity.
