Persons or organizations desiring to use this material, must obtain the written consent of the contributor, or the legal representative of the submitter, and contact the listed USGenWeb archivist with proof of this consent. ************************************************************************ Willis Davis' Land Grant October 30, 1857 State of Tennessee To all to whom these presents shall come greeting: Know ye that by virtue of Entry No. 3018 made in the office of the Entry Taker of Jackson County (now Putnam County) and entered on the 31st day of October 1853 pursuant to the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of said state passed on the 9th day of January 1830 (1831) then is granted by the State of Tennessee unto Willis Davis a certain tract or parcel of land containing Seventy eight acres and sixty four poles by survey bearing the date the 31st day of October 1855 lying in said County of Putnam, formerly in Jackson County on the waters of Pigeon Roost Creek, Beginning on a Hickory, Black oak and Post oak William Barnes South East corner and Stephen Davis' corner standing near an old field running thence north with Barnes line One hundred poles to a double White oak and Black oak pointers near the (sink) of a branch, Thence East with another of Barnes lines one hundred and twelve poles to a stake and pointers in a swamp, thence south passing William H. Barnes corner one hundred and twelve poles to a Post oak and Post oak pointers Jonathan Moore's corner thence west with his line one hundred and twelve to a stake in Stephen Davis' line. Thence north with said line twelve poles to the beginning with the here ditamerits(???) and ppertenances(????) To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with its appertenances(???) to the said Willis Davis and his heirs forever. In witness whereof Andrew Johnson Governor of the State of Tennessee hath hereunto set his hand and caused the Great Seal of the State to be affixed at Nashville on the Twentieth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five and of the Independence of the United States the 80th year.
