This site is on the old William Miller Clack farm, later owned by the Ewings and Crosbys. Some people have in recent years begun to call this site the Ewing Cemetery. This is revisionist history and some of the same thinking has been applied to other cemeteries in Rhea Co. Records over 100 years old refer to this as the Clack Burying Ground. From the "Clack Genealogy" written by William Raleigh Clack 1913. Raleigh Clack referred to in the below was the grandfather of the author. "Raleigh Clack, a son of Spencer Clack was born June 4th 1772, and was married to Mary Randels Oct. 28th 1791. His first wife having died, he was married again Aug. 15th 1816 to Martha Kerr. He was a resident of Kentucky for a time afterward moved back to East Tenn on the French Broad River, owning a large farm in the fork of French Broad and Pigeon rivers. Later he bought a large farm in the 3rd civil district of Rhea Co., Tenn. and moved to it where he spent the residue of his life.He served in the Army under Gen. Jackson in his famous campaigns against the Indians and was in that memorable battle of the Horse Shoe in 1814. He died Dec. 16 1842 and was buried in the Clack cemetery near his residence where a marble slab marks his last resting place." Obit for Micajah Clack written by his son, William Raleigh Clack "....His remains were intered according to his own dictationsin the Clack burrying ground, near James Ewing's, at 9:30 o'clock a. m., on the 17th inst., amid a large crowd of friends. Love for his many virtues and a tear of sorrow to his memory. W.R.C. Roddy, Tenn., August 25th, 1886" There are many sunken places, or fenced in places, that have no markers on them. The WPA missed several graves but they also recorded several that are no longer there. I will add those they missed. They estimated that there were 107 graves without names on them in the 1930's. Edna Clack - inventoried Nov 1997 Information in ( ) is mine, added for clarity. For more about the Clacks buried here, go to CLACK There has been a major oversite by everyone taking the inventory of the Clack Cemetery, including the one done by the WPA in the 1930's, the Rhea Historical Society, and even the one I did. To correct this as best I can, I am adding here the graves that were missed by all of us. Thanks to RICHARD ALLEN for his insistance that they were there and driving all the way to Rhea Co to point them out to me. The following three graves were pointed out by Richard: 1) James G. Kelley b. 4-23-1830 (Probably 1845 as per the Census Records) d. 10-25-1926 2) Clara Kelley b. unknown d. unknown 3) Margaret Taylor Wife of J.G.
