Newport Cemetery Inscriptions Rhea County, Tennessee Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by Edna Clack Woodchippy@aol.com (TVA property Marker WBR 29 US - TVA) (Sometimes referred to as Garrison Cemetery) There are no dates legible for James and Anna Rogers. Their grave sites are covered by large, flat limestone slabs. Each has an upright stone, also. James and Anna originally owned the land where they are buried and James is apparently the first to be buried there. The land was later bought from the heirs by Asa Newport and Elizabeth Rogers Newport. This inventory lists dates and notes associated with each person but I am also adding their relationship to each other as it was a family burial ground until later years. There have been a few burials there outside of direct family, but not many. Dates added that do not appear on stones are from my own research. There is a third large, flat limestone slab very near James and Anna. I suspect, but no proof, that this is Hannah Hinds Newport, Mother of Asa and wife of Richard Newport, who died 1847.
