I found a notation from goodspeeds Biographical sketches about Daniel Johnson and his second wife Rebecca Glover (nee) Walker this caught my eye and raised curiosity so I traced the Johnson and Easterly families back to their roots to the Sequatchie Valley. Isaac Johnson Jr. was born in Roane county Tennessee Aug. 18, 1821 one of six sons born to Isaac and Nancy Hunter Johnson. The father being born in 1783 in North Carolina and the mother in 1784 in Virginia. Isaac Johnson Sr. is said to have been a farmer, teacher and blacksmith, and is also said to have held public office in Roane and Marion Counties before he died in 1844 at the age of sixty years old. The wife and mother lived on at least another ten years and died sometime after the 1850 census. The children of Isaac and Nancy Hunter, Johnson are Hiram Hunter Johnson b. 1803 he married an Unknown Jane b. 1805 in TN. Hiram died 1865 in Bledsoe county, Jane died sometime after the 1880 census they had six children. Sara Johnson, was born 1811 In Roane County Tn. not much else is known of her. Malcom Johnson, b. 1812 in Roane county married Unknown Comfort b. 1826 TN. Malcom died some time after 1890 in Sequatchie county they had two children. Nancy Johnson was born in 1814 in Roane County she married James Jones b. 1816 in Bledsoe County they left Tennessee and went west in 1849 where they ended up in Jefferson County Arkansas, With them went some of the Walker Family including my GGG grandfather John Walker and his brother George Walker b. 1828, Isaac B Easterly and family, the Johnson's mentioned , and the Jones Family.and others.Nancy died before the 1880 census in Grant County Arkansas James Jones died Sep 1860 in Saline County Arkansas( old Jefferson County) they had eight children. William Johnson born 1816 also ventured to Arkansas and is found in the same 1850 census in Jefferson County Arkansas on the same page as the other family members. He is not married at this time. It is believed that he returned to the Sequatchie Valley in the mid 1850's along with some of the other family members who were disheartend after they made the trip. Francis Johnson born 1817 not much is known other than he was born in Roane county and stayed in the Sequatchie valley basin Rebecca Johnson born 1820 Roane county no information is available at this time. Daniel Johnson born 1824 in Roane county, TN married Elizabeth Hixson in 1844 in Marion county, she was born 1827 TN. died 1876 in Grant county Arkansas she was the daughter on Timothy and Nancy Hixson nothing else in known of the Hixson family except they lived in the Sequatchie valley and are spoken of in the Goodspeeds biographical sketch for Daniel Johnson. to their union were born nine children, they too were apart of the original party that left in 1849 to Arkansas. Daniel Johnson later married Rachel Glover (nee) Walker in 1878 in Grant County Arkansas, She was born in 1839 in Tennessee, and if not for Rachel I would not have known to search for my Walkers in the Sequatchie valley. Daniel Johnson started out as a farmer and later turned his sights on being a merchant and this he did and was very successful. He served in the civil war with honors and lived a very quiet life until he died in 1904 and is burried in Grant County near the town of Sheridan. The Johnson, Jones and Easterly families are the reason I was able to track my family back to Tennessee and it is my hope to help others do the same with this information given. My search later led me to the early Tennessee census records where next I found a George Walker living right next door to Isaac Johnson who is the father to Isaac and Daniel Johnson from Arkansas .I traced George Walker thru the Census records and up to 1850 where I discovered that George's wife Annah Was born in Georgia this was some kind of stroke of luck that later helped me to prove that this was infact my family as well as the 1860 census of Sequatchie County . My GGG grandfather John Walker all thru the census records listed his father as being born in Tennessee and his mother in Georgia, little did I know that on the same page of the 1850 census for Jefferson county Arkansas living right next door to each other I was looking at other family members, Isaac Johnson b. 1821 Roane County, TN and his wife Bashaba Walker Johnson b 1825, Bledsoe County, TN as well as brother Daniel Johnson b.1824 Roane County, TN. George Walker Jr. b. 1828 Marion County, TN and William Jones b.1826 Bledsoe County, TN. whos brother James Jones b. 1816 Bledsoe County, TN married Nancy Johnson b 1814, Roane County, TN. sister to Daniel and Issac Johnson. It should be noted here that another member who came along with these families in 1849 to Arkansas was another Johnson brother , William Johnson b 1816 he is found living in the household of his brother Daniel who married Elizabeth Hixson b.1827 and daughter of Timothy and Nancy Hixson who also resided in the Sequatchie Valley. William Johnson later returned to Tennessee, and to date, I have not tried to track him any further. Searching thru the records helped to seal the proof that I needed to tie my Walker family back to their roots in the Sequatchie valley and that to Captain George Walker. some of this proof can be found in the Sequatchie County court minutes that deal with the death of George Walker b. 1800 and Anna Butler his wife b.1798 in Georgia . Additional Comments: The subject matter is proven from various records sources including Census , Marriage, state and county court Records where available. My own family history and a number of books that I own as well as information gleened from Goodspeeds mention of Daniel Johnson in Grant County Arkansas. This information is to be used for research only and is not to be used for resale or other profit making ventures of any kind. I was blessed enough to have traced my family back to their roots in the great state of Tennessee, and it is my hope and wish that this will help others to do the same. I have researched all the names mentioned in this biographical Sketch and have other information available to assist you free of charge.
