Morgan dmorgan@efn.org ==================================================================== Roane County, TN Deed Record book D-1, pages 113-115 Deed of Conveyance from John Smith T to Charles Wood for 100 Acres Land This indenture made the fourth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight between John Smith T of the district of Saint Geneva and Louisiana Territory of the one part and Charles Wood of the county of Roane and State of Tennessee of the other part. Witnessforth that the said John Smith T for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars to him in hand paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, had and by the presents doth grant, bargain, sell alien, enfee off, and confirm unto the said Charles Wood, his heirs and assigns forever, a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres more or less, lying and being in the County of Roane and including the spring known by the name of Yourks Spring. Beginning on a hickory and black oak thence west one hundred and thirty-five poles to a pine on the top of a ridge then north one hundred and twenty poles to a black oak and two post oaks on the side of a ridge thence east one hundred and thirty-five poles to two post oaks thence a due south course to the beginning. Including the Improvement made by Richard Yourk, with all and singular the woods, water courses, profits, commodities, heriditiments, and appurtenances whatever to the said tract of land belonging or appertaining and the reversion and reversioning remainder and remaindering rents and issues thereof, and all the estate, right, title, interests, property claim, and demand of him, the said John Smith T, his heirs and assigns forever, of, in, and to the same and every part as parcel thereof either in law or equity to have and to hold the said one hundred acres of land in the same more or less with the appurtenances unto the said Charles Wood, his heirs and assigns forever, against the lawful title claims and demands of him the said John Smith T, will warrant and forever defend by these presents. State of Tennessee Roane County - July Session 1812 The execution of the within Deed of Conveyance was duly acknowledged in open court by John Brown as attorney in fact for John Smith T, the grantor therein named and admitted to record. Let it be registered, the state tax being paid to me. In testimony whereof I, Henry Breazeale, Clerk of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for said county, by John Purris, my deputy, have hereunto set my hand and private seal, having no seal of office at office in Kingston this 22nd day of July 1812.
