He was born in Cumberland County, Pa., June 8, 1769. He lived in Mechlenburgh County, N. C., when he enlisted in North Carolina troops in 1781 under Capt. Peter Burns. He served in the First Regiment of Dragoons, commanded by Col. Wade Hampton. He was in the battle of Eutaw Springs. He married in 1786. He had seven children. He died in Roane County, July 5, 1848.
