John Bowman was a Revolutionary soldier from Amherst, Virginia, who came to Tennesee before statehood. He was the father of Samuel, Lewis, and Sally. John is buried in Fooshee Cemetery with a Rev. War marker. His grandson, T.J. Bowman (son of Samuel) is buried nearby, a Civil War soldier, 2nd Lt. in the 2nd TN Vols (USA). ________________________________________ Roane County Tennessee Wills (1841) Will of John Bowman I John Bowman of the County of Roane and State of Tennessee do make and publish as my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void all other will at any time made first I direct that my funeral expences be paid of any money that I may be ceised of at my death. Secondly I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife my undivided Interest in the tract of land that I now live on the title of which is in my son Samuel. I direct that he make a title to his mother during her natural life and after death I direct that it be sold and the money Equally divided with all of my lawful heirs. I further direct and give and Bequeath unto my aforesaid wife all of my house hold and Kitchen furniture and one Cow an calf and one horse beast and seven hed of hogs thirdly I direct that all the Balance of my property be sold to the highest bidder for money on such time as my Executor may agree upon after my decease and the money with all other moneys debts and dues that I am or may be ceised of at decease..be Equally divided between all of my lawful Heirs Each one accounting for all that they have heretofore received. I direct that the heirs of my daughter Sally to wit Eliza Simpson and Lewis Grimit have her portion which is and Equal share with the other heirs Equally divided Between them Elizas to be paid at the time the others are Lewis Grimit to be loned at Interest untill he is of age lastly I do here by nominate and appoint Lewis Bowman and Abram Galyon my Executors in witness wereof I do to this my will set my hand and seal this third day of May 1841. his John X Bowman (seal) mark Signed sealed and published in our presant and we have subscribed our names here to in the presants of the Testator this the third day of May 1841.
