Hale HENRY M. JOHNSON. One of Orlinda's leading young men in financial circles is Henry M. Johnson, cashier of the Bank of Orlinda. He and his family are well and favorably known in this community, both his grandfathers—William H. Johnson and David Jones—having been pioneers in Tennessee, to which they had come from their native state of North Carolina. Both settled in Robertson county and here were born Henry M. Johnson (who lived to become the father of our subject) and Malissa Jones. Here, too, they were married, and here they reared their nine children, eight of whom survived them. Henry Johnson, Sr., was a prosperous farmer, who became the owner of four hundred acres of land during his lifetime, who was prominent as a tobacco raiser and also as a wheat-thresher, owning one of the first steam threshers known in Robertson county. A loyal Democrat, he also gave public service in the capacity of justice of the peace, which office he held for a number of years. Both he and his wife were members of the Baptist church. Henry M. Johnson's death occurred in 1883 and the demise of his wife in 1905. The youngest child of the above-named parents was his father's namesake, Henry M. Johnson, who is the special subject of this biographical review. Robertson county was the place of his nativity and the date of his birth was December 18,1882. In the schools of Orlinda the educational training of Henry M. Johnson was carried on, the year of his graduation from this school system being 1900. His earliest manly endeavors were those elemental activities of the farm in which every man of good physique finds a certain satisfaction. Other qualities were also conspicuous, however, in Henry Johnson. His gift for business affairs made him turn his attention to the possibilities for a commercial career and eventually led to his accepting a position as cashier in the Bank of Orlinda. This association he has ever since continued, with credit to himself and good results to the institution and its patrons. Mr. Johnson is, like his father, a Democrat of unshaken principles. Like him, too, he is a prominent member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in Orlinda Lodge No. 369. He is also connected with the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, in Crystal Fountain Lodge No. 285, at La Mont. In both lodges he holds the office of treasurer. His church affiliation is with the Baptist organization of this place. The marriage of Mr. Johnson and Miss Maude E. Williams was solemnized in 1911. Mrs. Johnson is a daughter of N. J. Williams, a citizen of Orlinda who conducts agricultural operations in this vicinity. Henry M. Johnson is counted one of the coming men of Orlinda, and he and his young wife are favored members of the social circle of the locality.
