The Will was proved in November, 1823. State of Tennessee - Know all ye that I, James Holland, do make and publish as my last will and in manner and form as follows towit: In the first place I loan to my loving wife during her natural life all my tenants and four negros, that is to say, George, Eliza, and her children Ellender and Hiram, and her choice of my brood mares and colts with as much of every other kind of property that I am possessed of as John Holland and George Barbee shall upon their oaths think she needs and in the next part - I give to Burwell Babb five dollars. I also give to the heirs of William Holland, deceased, $100.00 and in the last part I will that John Boyd, Burwell Pitts, John Holland, Thomas Holland and Andy Finley do have at the decease of my wife all the property that I have loaned to my wife equally divided amongst them. I also will that they have all the rest of my property that is not already willed to be divided amongst them at my decease. I also will that Thomas Holland and John Holland to have my land divided betwixt them and that they do allow three dollars praise for the same. The said land is intended by this will to go to the said Thomas and John Holland, and that the rest of the heirs, that is to say Boyd, Pitts, and Finley, also to have their part of the said estate made up out of other property. I do appoint Bartley Pitts, George Barbee my executors this sixth day of October 1823, In witness hereunto I set my hand and seal. A true inventory of the estate of John Holland, Deceased, taken on the third day of December, 1823 by John Holland, administrator of the estate of the said deceased viz: 137 ¼ acres of land, seven negroes, $95.25 in cash, 1 note on Joseph Robertson for $20.00 due the second day of November 1823, 2 bar share plows, 1 cutter plow, 1 shovel plow, 1 grubbing hoe, 3 axes, 1 mattock, 1 weeding hoe, 1 iron wedge, 1 reap hook, some bed irons, 1 small plain, 1 bell, 24 lbs. Bar iron, 1 side of leather, 1 man’s saddle, 73 lbs. Cotton, 1 French pot, 1 case roson, 1 raw hide, 2 feather beds and furniture, 4 head of horses, 18 head of hogs, 8 head of sheep, 3 bee stands, 10 head of cattle, 64 barrels of corn, 3 blade stacks. I do certify that the above inventory is a true one to the best of my acknowledge.
