Reed to James McKee: Mortgage Know all men by these presents that I John A. Reed of the County of Rutherford and State of Tennessee have this day bargained and sold, unto James McKee of the County and State aforesaid the following property viz. One womanıs saddle, one bed and furniture, one sow and pigs, 6 chairs, one spotted heifer, one [ ] bank filly 3 years old, one manıs saddle to secure the payment of a note and accounts due the 25th day of December 1838, drawing interest from this date. Now the condition of this bond is such whereas I John A. Reed am owing and have this day borrowed from the above named James McKee the sum of Eighty Dollars and to secure the payment of the same I have this day given the above named property to the said James McKee, now if the said J. A. Reed shall pay or cause to be paid the above named eighty dollars and interest by the 25th day of December Eighteen hundred and thirty eight, then this bond to be null and void otherwise to be disposed of according to law.
