He was then 79 years of age and therefore born in 1753. He enlisted in North Carolina troops under Captain Jacob Nicholas, General Griffith Rutherford, Lieutenant David Henry, General Andrew Williamson and General Williom Davidson. He was engaged in the Snow Campaign in 1775. He served under Colonel Francis Locke in the attack on General McLeod. He served under Colonel James Martin; and under General Griffith Rutherford in the Cherokee Campaign. He served under General Andrew Pickens in General Andrew Williamson's "Black Hole" fight. He was under Colonel Francis Locke, Captain Jacob Nicholas and General Rutherford in a march through South Carolina and Georgia in 1778 and 1779.
