He was born in King and Queen County, Virginia, in 1759. While residing in Mecklenburg County, Virginia he enlisted and served three months in Captain Thomas Ship's company, in Colonel Munford's regiment. He enlisted again in January, 1781, in Captain Charles Davis' company, Colonel Dick's regiment and was in an engagement in Portsmouth. Later in 1781 he served three months in Captain Jeffrits' company and was in the siege of Yorktown. He was discharged soon after the surrender of Lord Cornwallis. All his service was with Virginia troops. He moved from Mecklenburg County, Virginia, to Rutherford County, Tennessee, some time after the close of the Revolution.
