He was born November 25, 1762, in Granville County, N. C. He enlisted while living in Granville County, N. C., in August, 1780, and served in Captain Yancey's company, North Carolina regiment; he enlisted again in December, 1780, and served in Captain Richard Harrison's company, Colonel Joseph Taylor's North Carolina regiment; he enlisted again in April, 1781, and served in Captain William Armstrong's and Captain Langam's North Carolina companies. From the fall of 1781 he served under Edmund Granville, quartermaster at Salisbury. N. C., and was discharged there April 5, 1782. He did not give his parents name in his application papers but he named his stepfather, Zachariah Williams. In 1784 he moved to Madison County, Ky. In 1805 he moved to Rutherford County, Tenn. He died in Rutherford County, March 9, 1846. Note:- Stephen White married Hannah Dickinson, June 23, 1814. (She was probably a second wife as he was then 52 years of age).
