Phipps MURFREESBORO -- Edith Cross Phipps, 80, died Tuesday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was a native of Bluff City, a daughter of the late Charles Lee and Clara Goodman Cross, and was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Phipps. She was a member of Central Christian Church and a devoted homemaker. Surviving are sons Charles Phipps of Murfreesboro and Harry Phipps of Smyrna; daughter, Gloria Lollis of Christiana; brothers, C.L. Cross Jr. of Blountville, Harry Cross of Piney Flats and Homer Cross of Blountville; sisters Jessie Lee Bainer of Johnson City, Thelma Lynch of Huntsville, Ala., Velma McClellan of Huntsville and Nancy Sparks of Bristol Tennessee; and grandchildren, Bobby Phipps of Smyrna and Beth Lollis of Christiana. Graveside Service will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Thomas L. McCracken officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Christian Church. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 to 8 p.m. at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
