All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Robert Beard ********************************************************************************************************** JOSEPH DICKSON'S WILL Record Book 5, Page 114, Rutherford County, Tennessee October 8, 1823--In the name of God, amen: I, Joseph Dickson, of the State of Tennessee and County of Rutherford, being of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following: And first of all, I will and direct that all my debts and funeral charges be first paid out of my estate. Second, I will that all my property, both real and personal, be sold at public sales at a reasonable credit, and I do not allow of any trading among my legates, but every article sold public for what it brings, and when all is sold and all the debts paid the remainder shall be divided in fourteen equal parts and be divided between my heirs as follows: My son, James Dickson, shall have one share and one-half share; Elizabeth Graves shall have one share and her daughter, Adeline, shall have one-half share. I give to Isabella and to Margaret Henderson, my daughters, each of them one-half share. I give to my son, John Dickson, one dollar. I give to his wife, Margaret Dickson, one-half of a share and to his daughter, Peggy, one-fourth of a share. To my son, Joseph Dickson, I give one share and one-fourth of a share. To my son, Robert, I give one share and one- half. To my son, William, I give two shares and to my son, Ezekiel, I give three shares and one-fourth of a share. To my grandson, William Dickson, I give one share and to his brother, Jo, I give one-fourth of a share. To my son, Ezekiel Dickson, all my right and title to the land he lives on to do with as seemeth good. I also give my large Bible and all the clothes I die possessed of. I give to my granddaughter, Sarah M. Dickson, one negro girl called Phillis about seven years old to her only use and the heirs of her body legally begotten, also a bed and furniture and one cow and calf of her choice, her saddle, bridle, and eighty dollars in money out of my estate. The land I now own to be sold at public sale and a title to be made by my public executors hereinafter named, and I nominate and appoint my sons, James and Robert Dickson, my executors of this my last will and testament, and I do declare this only to be my last will and testament.
