He was born about 1760. He enlisted in Winchester, Va., in Virginia Troops, in 1777. He moved in 1780 to Botetourt County, Va., and after the War moved to the Tennessee Country. He died in Sevier County, April 3, 1836. His widow, Penelope Porter, applied for pension in Sevier County, Feb. 4, 1839, aged about 74 therefore born about 1765. They were married in 1785 in Virginia. The original pages of the Family Bible are enclosed showing their children's names: Alexander born 1786; William, born 1787; Elizabeth, born 1790; Ester, born 1791; John W., born 1793; Mary, born 1795; Mitchell, Jr., born 1796; Joshua Mc., born 1797, died 1803; Nancy, born 1801; Sally R., born 1802; James Douthett, born 1805, and Mc (Kindree?) born 1807.
