Pate was a farmer and Justice of the Peace. According to 1870 census he had real estate valued at $1200.00 and personal property of $1185.00. Also living in his household were Eli, 28 years old, farm laborer with real estate valued at $600.00 and personal property of $300.00; Sarah, 21 years old, housekeeping, $100.00 personal property and Joseph B., 20 years old, farm laborer. NOTE: These three are Nancy (Roberts) Pate's siblings who lived with her and her husband after their parent's deaths. Will Book 1 State of Tennessee Sevier County Will of N.B. Pate (1889) I Napoleon B. Pate do make and publish this, as my last will and testament hereby revoling and making void all others by me at any time made. First: I direct that my funeral expenses and all my debts be paid as soon after my death as possible out of any moneys that I may die possessed of, or may first come into the hands of my executors. Secondly: I give and bequeath to Clementine T. Blair my only daughter and to the heirs of her own boddy one half of my land in value - beginning at the lower end of the farm and adjoining the land of Noah Harden; also one half of my personal property. Thirdly: I give and bequeath to Christopher C. Pate my only son, the remaining half of my land at the upper end and adjoining his own farm; also the remaining half of the personal property. Lastly: I do nominate and appoint M.C. Thomas and C.C. Pate my executors. In witness whereof I do this my Will set my hand this the eight day of April one thousand eight hundred and eighty nine.
