Prenuptial Agreement between Alice B. Greenlaw and Richard Mason 23 Sept. 1832, Deed Book C, p. 285, Shelby County, Tennessee "Whereas a marriage is intended shortly to be celebrated between RICHARD MASON now of Madison County Alabama and ALICE B. GREENLAW of the County of Shelby and State of Tennessee, and it being the intent of the said parties that all the property both real and personal of which the said Alice B. Greenlaw is now or may hereafter be seized and possessed. shall after and during said marriage be held; owned and enjoyed by and for her own separate use and benefit, without the control of him the said Richard Mason. Now in furtherance of the premises, these articles of agreement made and entered into this 23d day of September 1832, between the said Richard Mason of the first part and the said Alice B. Greenlaw of the second part. Witness that the said Richard Mason in consideration of the premises doth covenant and agree to and with the said Alice B. Greenlaw that after and during the said contemplated marriage, she the said Alice B. Greenlaw shall hold, enjoy, own and control all the estate and property of every description of which she is now seized and possessed, or entitled to, and all property of every description which she may hereafter acquire by gift, bequest, devise, purchase, descent or otherwise to her own separate use and benefit, to her and her heirs forever, free from the control of him the said Richard Mason, with full power to sell or dispose of any or all of said property, and to reinvest in such other property as she may think proper to be enjoyed and held as above, free from the control of the said Richard Mason. And the said Richard Mason doth further covenant and agree to and with the said Alice B. Greenlaw that the following described estate and property, now in her possession, shall be and remain subject to the provisions and covenants in this agreement. That is to say a tract of land lying and being in the County of Shelby and State of Tennessee containing two hundred and seventy Acres, more or less, described as follows. To wit, and in range seven sections two and three the Eleventh Surveyors district bounded as follows: beginning on the north boundary line of Williams & Lawrence's Survey which is to include all the survey of the aforesaid tracts of land lying and being in the County of Shelby & State of Tennessee and immediately on Wolf River. Also one negro woman named MURIAH about fifteen years old, one Ditto BETTY 20 years old and three children DIANNAH and 1 child, three negro men named as follows to wit NED, HENRY, and DUDLEY and all the stock of Horses Cattle and Hogs that the said Alice B. Greenlaw now has in her possession and all that she may hereafter have in her possession together with all debts due to said Alice B. Greenlaw, her heir or heirs or assigns.
