Recorded on Roll of Pensioners under act February 2, 1848, Page 370 Vol. 3 Page 4: Declaration In order to obtain the benefit of the third section of an act of Congress of the 4th July 1836 State of Tennessee} Smith County} on this 16th day of october 1837 personally appeared before Me John Lancaster an acting Justice of the Peace for said County, Anne Ford a resident in the county and State afore Said aged Sixty six years & five months who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath Make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by an act of Congress passed July 4, 1836 That she is the widow of Lewis Ford who was a Captain of a Militia company in the State of Virginia in the Revolution, She is unable to state any of the particulars of her Late husband services but for particulars will respectfully refer to the affidavit of Edmund League - She further declares that she was married to the Said Lewis Ford on 10 day of February 1788 that her husband the said Lewis Ford died on the 10th day of February 1833 and that she has remained a widow ever since that period as will more fully appear by reference to the proof hereto annexed, that she has had Seven children but that the youngest of them is now 24 years of age. Lancaster residents for the county and State afore said who being first duly sworn accord to law doth on their oath say that they have bin well acquainted with Lewis Ford and Anny Ford his widow who is now an applicant for a pension under the act of congress of the 4th of July 1836.. for the last Twenty two or three years and from all the information that we have had we believe the applicant was the lawful wife of Capt Lewis Ford deceased and we know to our own knowledge that she has remained a widow ever since the death of her husband Lewis Ford Sworn to and Subscribed the day and (d)ate above writen. Bennett & John Collom who has maid affidavit the above and also with Edmond League who has maid affidavit as to the service of capt Lewis Ford whos widow is now an applicant for a pension and know them to be men of credit and believed in there neighbourhood, given under my hand and seal this the 3d Day of october 1837 John Lancaster JP for Smith County Page 7: Department of the Interior Widow's Pension I certify that in conformity with the act of February 2d, 1848, Ann Ford widow of Lewis Ford, of Tennessee, who was a private in the revolutionary war, is inscribed on the pension list at the rate of Twenty dollars per annum, commencing on the 4th of March, 1848, and continuing for life, unless she should again marry, in which case the Pension is not payable after the time of such marriage. Given at the Department of the Interior this 20th day of August one thousand eight hundred and fifty. Page 9: State of Arkansas} County of Independence} Be it Known, that on this fifteenth day of January A.D. 1855 before me, the undersigned, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared (1) Elijah Hylton administrator of the Estate of Ann Ford Deceased resident of (2) Batesvile Arkansas in said County, and made oath according to law that (3) Ann Ford Deceased the identical (4) Ann Ford whose name, under act of (5) 3rd of February 1848 has been placed on the (6) Pension Roll at the rate of (7) twenty Dollars per annum. That he is credibly informed that the said Pension may and ought to be increased from its commencement and during its continuance; that (8) he is directly interested as a claimant in said increase, and makes this affidavit to be filed with such additional evidence as my Agent may use in prosecuting said claim. Countermanding and revoking all Powers of Attorney and authority heretofore given, I hereby constitute and appoint A.H. Markland Washington City, my true and lawful Attorney to prosecute the claim of (4) for any amount of Revolutionary Pension, or INCREASE OF PENSION that may be due; and for the purpose of establishing additional service by the soldier for whose military duty in the Revolution the aforesaid Pension was granted, I hereby authorize my said Attorney to apply for and obtain from State archives or other sources, certified proofs of such service. To examine all papers or documents in relation to said service, on file in the Departments at Washington City or elsewhere; to file additional evidence or arguments, and to receive for my benefit the Certificate for INCREASE which may be issued in satisfaction of said claim, which certificate I wish made payable at the Pension Agency of this State; to appoint one or more substitutes under him for the purpose herein expressed, and to do all things that I might or could do were I personally present. Hereby ratifying and confirming all that my said Agent and Attorney shall lawfully do in the premises. (9) Elijah Hylton, Administrator Sworn to, Subscribed and Acknowledged before me the day and year above written, and I hereby certify that I believe the said Elijah Hylton as administrator to be directly interested in said claim as set forth, and to be the identical party therein alleged, in whose claim I am in no wise interested. Judge State of Arkansas} County of Independence} It is hereby Certified, that satisfactory evidence has been exhibited before me, Clerk of the Court of Independence County that (4) Ann Ford decd widow of Lewis Ford decd was a Revolutionary Pensioner of the United States, at the rate of $20.00 per annum (7) and that (s)he died on the seventh day of August Eighteen Hundred and fifty three leaving surviving the following named children and none other, to wit: (11) Nancy L. Lancaster, Elizabeth Cottrell and Lucy Hylton It is further certified that (12) John C. Brickey Esq. before whom the preceding affidavit and Power of Attorney were made and acknowledged, was at the time of so doing a duly authorized Judge of the County & Probate Court in and for said county, and that the signature purporting to be his, I believe to be genuine; and further, that in the within claim for Increase of Pension I am in no degree interested. Greeting, Know ye that whereas Ann Ford of the county of Independence died Intestate, as it is said on or about the 7" day of August AD 1853, having at the time of her death personal property in this State, which may be lost, destroyed or diminished in value, if speedy cure be not taken of the same; to the end therefore that the said property may be collected, preserved and disposed of according to law, we do hereby appoint Elijah Hylton of the county of Independence, administrator of all and singular the goods and chattles rights and credits which were of the said Ann Ford at the time of her death, with full power and authority to secure and dispose of the said property according to law, and collect all moneys due said deceased, and in general to do and perform all other acts and things which are or hereafter may be required of him by law. {LS} In testimony whereof I, R.R. That the deceased pensioner resided in the county of Smith in the State of Tennessee, for the space of 30 years before his death, and that previous thereto he resided in the state of Virginia. Know all men by these presents, That I Elijah Hylton of Batesville in the county of Independence State of Arkansas, administrator of Lewis Ford, who was a revolutionary pensioner of the United States, do hereby constitute and appoint A.S. Huey Esq. my true and lawful attorney, for me, and in my name to receive from the agent of the United States for paying pensions in Little Rock, State of Arkansas, the balance of said pension from the 4th day of March 1831, to the 10th day of February 1833, being the Page 16: day of his death.
