These Minutes were transcribed as closely as possible to the original." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In September, 1842 the Annual Meeting of the Hiwassee United Baptist Association was held at Mount Pleasant Meeting House in Bledsoe County. Elder William Green, delivered the introductory sermon from Ephesians, fourth chapter and fourth verse: "There is one body and one spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling." Then letters from twenty one Churches were read and the following account taken. Also, received Head of Sequatchey Church into our Union by letter, and added, make 22. Dorson 25 Union McMinn - George Monrow, John Foster 28 Head of Sequatchey - B. Brewer, A. Hider. 21 The Association was called to order and appointed H.M. Sellers Moderator, Wm. Wan Clerk, and A. Kincannon Assistant. 1st. Called for corresponding letters and received ........ ............ right hand of fellowship and took their seats with us, and Gray Haggard write to them, and N.B. Briggs, A. Forshee and William Green, be out messengers to bear the same. Also, one from Powels Valley, by the hands of their messengers, James Parker and Elisha Prophet, who were gave the right hand of fellowship and took their seats with us, George Dorson write to them, and Gray Haggard, J.J. Munger and Jacob Peck, be our messengers to bear the same. Also, one from Ocoee, by the hands of their messengers, A.King and John Odel, who were gave the right hand of fellowship and took their seats with us, J.J. Munger write to them, H.M. Sellers and William Green, be our messengers to bear the same. 2nd. Invited brethren Osiah Denton and Anderson to seats with us, and appointed the following members to receive the Church's contribution, to-wit: Prior Neal and J. Matheny and them to report tomorrow, and they report Church's contributions $19.59 cents, and $6.87 cents donated by members of the Association, making in all $26.46 cents, and gave our delegates to the different corresponding Associations $13.75 cents to defray their expenses - also, $4 to our clerk to defray his expenses in attending to the printing of the minutes. 3rd. Appointed a select committee to arrange the business of this association, to-wit: Gray Haggard, E.W. Pope, William Green, Geo. Monrow, Elisha Turner, with the Moderator and Clerk. 4th. Gave Mount Pleasant Church the liberty of selecting brethren to fill the stand during this association, and they report as follows, to- wit: Odel, Parker, Galloway and Turner, preach on Saturday & King, Denton, Munger and Sellers, on Sabbath. Then adjourned with prayer by the Moderator, until Saturday morning 10 o'clock. Saturday Morning 5th. Met pursuant to adjournment and after prayer by Osiah Denton, proceeded to business. 6th. Called the roll and crossed out absent members, and called for .............. Fellowship Church request that it be published in our minutes the disolution of Bethel Church, and agreed to. 7th. Fellowship church ask advice of the Association concerning the situation of John O. Thompson. Answer - Seeing the book of Bethel church in the possession of Fellowship Church, we are willing to leave the matter at the discretion of Fellowship Church to declare an-non fellowship or retain. 8th. We have appointed a Union meeting at Poplar Spring meeting house, Roane County, Tennessee, to commence on Friday before the fourth Saturday in August, 1843, and following days --Elders M.H. Sellers, Wm. Green and L.B. Johnson attend it -- also, a Union meeting at Hinds' Valley meeting house, Roane county, to commence on Friday before the second Saturday in June, 1843, and following days, E. Turner, J.J. Munger and Gray Haggard attend it. 9th. Corresponding letters read, received and ordered to be signed by the Moderator and Clerk. 10th. Ordered that we have five hundred copies of our minutes printed and that our clerk superintend the printing of them, and reserve one copy for each church in the different corresponding Associations and for each moderator and clerk. 11th. M.H. Sellers to preach the next introductory sermon and in case of failure, W.E. Pope be his alternate. 12th. Our next association to be held at Pisgah meeting house, Meigs county, Tennessee, to commence on Friday before the third Saturday in September, 1843, and following days. 13th. Ordered that our minutes be read and signed by the moderator and clerk, so the present session came to a close with prayer by Elder J.J. Munger. M.H. Sellers, Mod. Wm. Wan, Clerk
