Pikeville, Tenn.: Sequachee Advance Job Print. - 1882- Minutes First Day's Proceedings The Association met at Yellow Creek Church House, Rhea county, Tenn., on Friday before the fourth Saturday in September, 1882. According to appointment, Elder E.S. Bailey delivered the Introductory Sermon from Luke, 24th chapter, 48th verse: "And ye are witnesses of these things." After an intermission of twenty minutes the Delegates assembled in the house, and, after prayer by the Moderator, Elder J.B. Sharp, Clerk. 1. An invitation was given to new Churches: none received. 2. Called for corresponding letters from sister Associations. Received one from Stockton Valley Association by the hands of their delegates, Elder J.D. Hopkins and E.D. Wright, who were invited to and accepted seats with us. Also one from Hiwassee Missionary Association, asking correspondence with us. Agreed that the Moderator appoint a committee of three to report to-morrow morning on the propriety of the same. Whereupon E.S. Bailey, J. Johnson and M.C. Clack were appointed as said committee. 3. Appointed brethren J.R. Waller, A.D. Morrison, J.K. Chastain, F. Gwinn and J.S. Clack a committee on Arrangements. 4. Appointed brethren J.R. Hollomon, and T.J. Gibson a committee on Finance. 5. Appointed one delegate from each Church with the Church at Yellow Creek as a committee on preaching during this session. 6. Agreed to continue our correspondence with Stockton Valley Association, and appointed Elders J.K. Chastain, J.Johnson, A.L. McCain, J.R. Hollomon, A.C. Ewing and J.B. McCallon to bear our letter to them when convened with the Church at Cedar Grove, Fentress County, Tenn., on the second Saturday in September 1883. 7. The committee on preaching report for to-night Hopkins and Sharp at the Church; Morrison at Shady Grove; at Salem Johnson and Bailey. After prayer by Elder J. Johnson adjourned until 9 o'clock to-morrow morning. SECOND DAY'S PROCEEDINGS Met pursuant to adjournment. Prayer by Elder A.D. Morrison. 1. Called for report of committee on Arrangement; report read, received, and committee discharged. 2. Called the roll, and the names of those not present erased. 3. Read the constitution and rules of decorum. 4. Called for a report of committee on Correspondence; report read, received, and committee discharged. We, the under signed, having been appointed a committee to report on the propriety of opening a correspondence with the Hiwassee Missionary Baptist Association, a letter having been handed in to that intent, beg leave to submit the following: Brethren, we deplore the unhappy divisions among Baptist, at the same time we are divided and we, your committee, are satisfied from what we hear and believe, that a considerable number of the Hiwassee Missionary Association, do not want correspondence with us. For this and other satisfactory reasons to ourselves, with the kindest feelings to all, think it inconsistent in them to ask correspondence with us, and would be inconsistent in us to grant it. Committee E.S. Bailey M.C. Clack James Johnson 5. Invited visiting brethren from Hiwassee Missionary Association to seats with us during our session. 6. Appointed M. Sharp Treasurer for this year. 7. Called for report of committee on Finance, who report present contributions, $17.00; in hands of Treasurer, $5.49; total $22.40. 8. Called for report of committee on Preaching, who report for to-day, Bramlett and Chastain; at night at the Church, Cunningham and Sharp; at Salem, Johnson, Bailey and Hopkins; at Shady Grove, Chastain and Bramlett; Sabbath, Hopkins and McCallon. 9. Appointed our next Association to be held at Hind's Valley, Roane County, Tenn., on Friday before the fourth Saturday in September, 1883. Elder J.K. Chastain to preach the Introductory Sermon, and M. Sharp, Alternate. 10. The Association took under consideration the request from Ten Mile Church in regard to the supplying of the destitute in the bounds of our Association. Wherefore the following request was adopted by the Association: We request all our Churches having ministers belonging to them to urge upon them to devote all the time they can in preaching in our bounds this year. 11. Corresponding letter to Stockton Valley called for; read, approved and ordered to be signed by the Moderator and Clerk. 12. Agreed to have 700 copies of our minutes printed, and M. Sharp to superintend the printing and distribution of the same, and that he be allowed $5 for his services. 13. The thanks of the Association are hereby tendered to the brethren of Yellow Creek Church and the community in general for the hospitality extended to the messengers and all visitors during this session.
