Begun and Held at the Concord Meeting House, Meigs County, Tenn., September 23, 24, and 26, 1887. Officers: J.B. Time: Friday before the Fourth Sabbath in Sept. 1888 MINUTES First Day's Proceedings According to appointment, Elder A.D. Morrison delivered the Introductory Sermon from Micah, 5th chapter and 5th verse. After an intermission of twenty minutes, the delegates met in the house. After prayer by J.B. McCallon, letters were read from the following churches and the following accounts taken: Paint Rock - Elder P.R. Brown, S.W. Gage, J.P. Sharp, H. Pleasant - William Loden 15 1. the association then organized by choosing J.B. McCallon for Moderator and James Johnson for Clerk. 2. Called for: Corresponding letters. One received from Stockton's Valley Association by the hand of her delegate, Elder H.T. Delany. J.B. McCallon, J.K. Chastain, J. Johnson, J.R. Holloman, E.M. EWing, W.R. Clack, Robert Spradling, and William Smith were appointed to attend them when convened at West Union, Overton county, Tennessee, on the 2d Saturday in September, 1888. Also a letter from West Union Association; no delegate. Brother J.R. Holloman was appointed to att3end them when convened at Elk Fork, Campbell county, Tennessee, Friday before the 2d Saturday in October, 1887. 3. Elder J.K. Chastain, P.R. Brown, J.A. Barnard, T.J. Gibson, together with the Moderator and Clerk and corresponding delegates, were appointed a Committee of Arrangement on unfinished business, to report to-morrow morning. 4. One delegate from each church, together with Concord church, was appointed a committee on preaching. To-night: J. Sharp, S.M. Gage, and H.T. Delany. Saturday: P.R. Brown and J. Whaley. Sunday: Delany and Chastain. 5. William Soden and J.P. Moulton were appointed a committee on Finance, to report to morrow morning. After prayer by J.K. Chastain, the Association adjourned until 9:30 o'clock to-morrow morning. SECOND DAY'S PROCEEDINGS Met according to adjournment. Prayer by J. Johnson. 1. Called for: The report of the Committee of Arrangement. Report read and the committee discharged. 2. Read: The powers of the Association, form of government, and rules of decorum. 3. The roll was called and absentees stricken out. 4. J. Johnson was appointed Treasurer for the ensuing year. 5. Called for: Corresponding letters. Read, approved, and ordered signed by the Moderator and Clerk. 6. Called for: Report of Committee on Finance. Report present contribution, $18.55. Balance in the hands of the Treasurer, $2.00, and for Corresponding Delegates, $2.05, making in all $22.00. 7. Ordered by the Association, that the sum of $8.00 be distributed among Corresponding Delegates, which was done. 8. An invitation was given to Baptist ministers, whereupon Elder J. Whaley, being present, took a seat with us. 9. Appointed our next Association to be held at Macedonia church house, Roane county, Tennessee, about 12 miles north-east of Kingston, commencing on Friday before the 4th Saturday in September, 1888. 10. The Association requested J.K. Chastain, J.B. McCallon, J. Johnson, and brethren J.R. Holloman, J.C. Johnson, and C.C. Denham to attend Town Creek church on the 5th Saturday in October next, and give them such advice as they may think necessary, and report to our next Association, which they agreed to do. 11. Query from Byrd's Branch: Is the work of ordination done by Free- will Baptists legal, and shall we recognize it? Answer: Their ordination is not legal, and we can not recognize it. 12. J. Johnson was appointed to preach the next Introductory Sermon, with E.S. Bailey for alternate. 13. Ordered: 700 copies of our minutes printed, the Clerk to superintend the printing and distribution of the same, and to allow him $5.00 for his services. 14. The Association tendered it's thanks to Concord church and the community generally for their hospitality during its session. The Association then adjourned, to meet at the time and place above named.
