Old Friendship: Whereas in the providence of God we are called mourn the death of our beloved sister, Mrs. Amy (Clack) Johnson, widow of Elder James Johnson, deceased. Sister Johnson was born February 20, 1829, died November 5, 1906, aged 77 years, 8 months and 15 days. She professed faith in Christ and joined the Baptist Church in April 1850, and was a faithful member of the church for more than 56 years, most beautifully exemplifying the character of a true Christian. Amy was loved by all who knew her. Her funeral service was conducted by Elders S.A. Waller, Z.T. Manis and her pastor, Elder J.R. Smith and was, with tender hands, laid to rest by the side of her husband, in the Newport Cemetery. We cherish the memory of our departed sister as a _ay-mark to a beautiful home above. Hind's Valley: Hind's Valley church mourns the loss of Brother J.C. Abel, who was born May 17, 1818, and died June 6, 1907, aged 89 years and 21 days. He united with the Baptist Church at Hind's Valley the 2nd Saturday in May 1887, by experience and baptism. Elder James Johnson baptized him. He was ordained Deacon of the church the 2nd Saturday in July 1889, and remained in that office until his death. Although very feeble with age he always attended his meeting on Saturday. In his last days on earth he said to his pastor in the language of David: "I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread." This ought to be encouraging to us as Christians to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints. J.W. Roble W.L. Abel ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
