OBITUARIES Old Friendship Church Brethren, since our last annual meeting the name of one of our beloved brethren has been forever stricken from the church roll, and from the roll of life, by the ruler of the universe. Bro. James T Brady (NOTE: This is James Knox Polk Brady, my gr- grandfather, not James T. Brady, this is just a misprint, probably meant it to be James P as he was called Polk Brady -EC) was born in Rhea County, Tenn., Nov 10, 1848, and died Aug. 21, 1914, in the 66th. year of his age. He was the son of Farley and Sarah Brady, and was the last survivor of that large and prosperous family. Bro. Brady joined Old Friendship Church and was baptised by the pastor Eld. James Johnson on the 3rd. sunday in Nov. 1894. He lived a consistant Christian life, and was a faithful member of this church for nearly twenty years. The Christian's faith and hope were his; so that his peaceful death met with a calm and quiet resignation. Over Bro. Brady the grave could win no victory, and for him death had no sting. A devoted wife and nine children survive him. The funeral services were conducted at his late residence on the 22nd. of Aug. by his pastor, Eld. P.R. Brown. By the Church Clerk (W.R. Clack) Shiloh Church Margarett Guffee was born July 31, 1849, married to Joseph Clower Dec. 27, 1868. To this union was born two sons and two daughters, three of whom survive. United with the Church at Shiloh by experience of grace 1866. Died June 23, 1913, age 63 years 10 mo and 23 day. Mother died as she had lived with her faith anchored in the cross of our saviour, was patiently waiting the hour when she should her meet her god. A child Sister Sarah Elizabeth Proffitt was born June the 1st. 1839, died April 6th, 1912, professed hope in Christ at home at her work at about 18 years of age. Joined the Church at Lime Stone Church III in the early seventies about 73, joined Shiloh Church by letter the 4th. Saturday in July 1876. She loved the Church and when her health would admit, was always found in her seat doing what she could for the cause of the Church. Bro. Johnathan M. Barnard was born in Roane County, Tenn., Nov. 14, 1830. Married Miss Rebecca Weese Dec. 22, 1870. To this union was born several sons and daughters all of whom are highly esteemed and substantial citizens. Brother Barnard was a successful farmer, a prominent citizen, a good neighbor, and ever administering to wants of the poor around him. He joined Shiloh Church 4th. Sat. in Sept. 1886, and was a consistant member till his death which occured June 19, 1913. Bro. J.S. Durham was born Dec. 6, 1845, was marred (sic) to Miss. Columbia Ann Harmon about Dec. 1873, who with several sons & daughters survive him. Bro. Durham joined Shiloh Church by experience Dec. 25, 1865, and remained a good member in full fellowship till death which came April 11, 1914. Concord Church The angel of death has again visited our Church and has taken from us two of our sisters. Sister Margaret L. Marney was born April 1, 1840, joined the Church at Concord the 2nd. Saturday in Sept. 1857. Mrs. Marney's death came unexpectedly, it brings to our minds the truth of the expression "In the midst of life we are in death." and causes us to turn to the exhortation given us by Jesus to "Watch therefore for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come." We would say to the bereaved husband and two daughters to look to God for comfort, for of a truth she was a good woman, without an enemy. Died July 1914. Sister Rebecca Bohanan joined the Church at Concord Aug. 1903. Sister Bohanan had been afflicted for several years. She was a devoted Christian and faithful member of our church. Besides husband and children, Mrs. Bohanan leaves father, brothers and sisters and other friends who bear in mind loving memories of her. May God guide each of them to that bright home she now enjoys, in this their sad hour, and may they realize he doeth all things well, though it be hard, so hard to give up mother. She is missed as a mother, wife, and a church member, but thanks be to God for his promises that he has a place prepared for all the weary pilgrims who have trusted in him. Died June 4, 1914. Macedonia Church Bro. Jas. M. Mounger was born Nov. 19, 1840, professed hope in Christ in early life, joined the Primitive Baptist Church and lived a worthy member fifty-four years. Died May 5, 1914. He was a kind husband, an affectionate Father and a worthy citizen. Peace to his ashes till called fourth (sic) in the morning of the resurrection. By order of the Church. J.L. Waller G.H. Moore M.B. Waller Committee Fellowship Church It has pleased our Heavenly Father to call from among us since our last communication four of our beloved members. Towit: Sister Elizabeth Duckworth who died on the 13th. day of March 1914. Age 79 years 7 mo. 23 days. Sister Duckworth's maiden name was Walker, she joined and was baptised into the fellowship of the Church at Concord on the second Saturday in Sept. 1857, and was received into Fellowship Church by letter from Concord in April 1898. Sister Harriet Trew died on the 19th. day of March 1914, age 57 years 2 mo. 21 days. Sister Trew's maiden name was Baker, she joined the Church at Fellowship by experience and baptism August 1871. Sister Mattie Fisher, nee Thomas, died on the 18th. day of Jan. 1914, age 27 years, eleven mo. eleven days. Sister Fisher joined the Church at Fellowship and was baptised 10th. day of Sept. 1913. Sister Emma Sheets died on the 16th day of July, 1914, age 16 years and 6 days. Sister Sheets joined the Church at Fellowship and was baptised 10th. day of Sept. 1913. We are again reminded that the old, the middle aged, and the young are all liable to be called at any time, to appear before the Creator to be judged according to the deeds done in the body. We have been made sad beyond human expression on account of the deaths within our ranks during this Associational year, but we bow in humble submission to him who doeth all things well; and give thanks that they all died in triumph of a living faith. Committee Ten Mile Church On Feb. 11th. God called away the spirit of Mattie Boggess from earthly suffering and sorrow, to that home that awaits His children. Sister Mattie, the daughter of E.M. & Mary Ewing, was born Dec. 11, 1863, Married B. Boggess Dec. 30, 1880. She gave herself to Jesus when quiet young, the age 13, and joined the Baptist Church, to which she was faithful and true till death. Hers was a life of Christian usefulness. She succeeded in bringing her children up in the fear and love of "God", and all that reached the age of accountability, were members of the Church. Her devoted children were with her in her last sickness, and did all they could to relieve her intense sufferings. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.A. Robison, at the home, and her body laid to rest in the family cemetery to sleep till the resurrection. She was a devoted wife, a fond indulgent mother, and affectionate sister, a loyal Christian, and kind and generous to all. Besides her broken hearted husband and nine children, one sister and three brothers, she leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Sister Mattie is not dead, but sleeps. May the Divine Comforter bless the bereaved ones and heal their broken hearts. "For much as they loved her, God loved her more; And he called her home, To dwell with him forevermore." On April 17, 1914, Sister Malinda Peake, the oldest in the Church, passed away to the rest that remaineth; the City which hath foundation. Her earthly pilgrimage was more than a century, her life dates from Jan. 17, 1814. She died at the home of her son, J.K. Peake, with whom she lived. The hand of affliction touched her lightly; being well both in body and mind to within a few hours of her death. She married Luke Peake in 1840, of their eight children only three survive her. She was a faithful member of the Baptist Church for more than sixty years, having first united with Old Pisgah Church, afterwards moving her membership to Ten Mile where she remained till death. She ever exercised a christain influence. Her funeral services were conducted by her pastor Rev. J.A. Robison at the M.E, Church at Pinhook, where a large audience of loved ones and friends had met to pay their last tribute of love to Aunt "Linda." Her remains were laid to rest in the family burying ground beside her husband. While her going has left a vacant place in the home, she has joined that happy throng, where vacant places are unknown. Committee After the above obituaries, they had printed their 'Form of Government" rules in the back of the Minutes. End of 1914 Minutes.
