Keyes Jan 11, 2005 Source: FHL Film# 972708 This Indenture made this twenty first day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty Between William Carter of the County of Carter and State of Tennessee of the one part and Nicholas Motten Sn'r of the County of Sullivan and State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said William Carter for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar to him in hand Paid the receipt whereof is herby acknowledged hath and by these Presents doth grant, bargain sill ????? and confirm unto the said Nicholas Motten his heirs and assigns for ever a certain Tract or Parcel of land containing Twenty seven Acres be the same more or less lying and being in the County of Sullivan and State aforesaid on the South side of Holston River Begin= ning at a Hicory and three Spanish Oak Saplings on the side of a Hill, thence North Twenty four West fifty six poles to two White Oaks and a Walnut on Benjamin Webbs line thence runing contiguous with the same North Sixty six East One Hundred and Eleven poles to two Hicories and a White Oak, thence South twenty four East twenty five poles to a Poplar and Spanish Oak, thence a direct line to the Beginning To Have and to hold the before described Tract of land with appurtenances and Heredetaments thereunto belonging unto the said Nicholas Motten Sn'r and his heirs for ever and I the said William Carter for my self and heirs will forever hereafter warrant the title to the said land to the said Nicholas Motten and his heirs as respects any claim the said William or his heirs may have or any other Person or Persons claiming under or through him or them and or for them In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal the day and date above written W Carter (seal) State of Tennessee Court of Pleas &c At August Session 1820 The Sullivan County Execution of the within deed of Conveyance was acknowledged in open Court by William Carter party Let it be Registered Joseph C Rhea DCLK of Sullivan County Reg 5th January 1821 [Note: Wm Carter bought the land from Sherriff in 1813 (see DB 6, p. 488) land originally patented to Geo.
