SULLIVAN COUNTY, TN - DEEDS - John Tipton to Thomas McCaury and Nathan Shipley ----¤¤¤---- Sullivan Co., TN, DB 6, p. 438: John Tipton to Thomas McCaury and Nathan Shipley Transcribed by Robert Keyes Feb 16, 2005 Source: LDS FHL film #972707 Know all men by these presents that I John Tipton of the Town of Blountville and County of Sullivan and State of Tennessee was on the ninth day of September one thousand Eight hundred and Ten constituted and appointed by George and Joseph Greenway attorney duly authorised and empowered to sell transfer and dispose of in their names two entries of Land made by John Webb Dec'd their Father in law in his name in his life time in John Armstrongs office of two thousand five hundred acres each one entry of No 2546 the other of No 2548 both entries purporting to have been made the 25th day of May 1784 likewise authorizing me to Draw warrants warrants thereon or do whatsoever else as I the said John Tipton might think proper in selling and disposing of said warrants as reference to said power will fully appear and whereas the said John Tipton did afterward make application to the Legislature of the State of Tennessee for an act to authorise the drawing said warrants and which was granted and the Commissioners authorised to Issue Duplicates therefor since which I sold to Thomas Hopkins of the County of Sullivan and State aforesaid three thousand three Hundred acres of good and valid Land warrants in consid= eration of which he paid me one Thousand six hundred and thirty Dollars and being desirous of transfering and putting him in possession of the warrants and it being at this time inconvenient to me to attend in person at the Commissioners Office where the greater part of the warrants are at this time I do hereby constitute Impow =er and appoint my friend Thomas McCaury of the Town of Knoxville & Nathan Shipley of the County of Washington or either of them to make free use of my name in transfering and subscribing my name as attorney in fact for George and Joseph Greenways in persurance to their power in me vested to each and every duplicate warrant in their name issued by the Commissioners of East Tennessee remaining in Commissioners Office at Knoxville from the before recitted two warrants of two thousand five hundred acres each to the before mentioned Thomas Hopkins then deliver the same to him for me & in my name the whole amount remaining in the Commissioners Office which I am advised is about two thousand seven hundred and thirty three acres contained in twenty seven warrants the before named Thomas McCaury or Nathan Shipley is hereby requested and fully authori =ized to transfer over to him the aforesaid Thomas Hopkins all the right title interest claim and demand of them the said George & Joseph Greenway and subscribe my name as before mentioned to the same which shall be as good & valid to all intents & purposes as if done with my own hand.
