He served in the Second Georgia Regiment for three years. He resided in Charlotte County, Va., when he enlisted in 1775. He marched to Georgia under Lieutenant Littlebury Mosby, in Captain John Mosby's company. After three years' service he was captured by the British and put on a British prison ship for eight months. He escaped and reenlisted at Guilford and Eutaw Springs, North Carolina. He had a wife and three children, living with him when he applied for pension, whose names are not given. The son was 17 years of age, the daughters were 14 and 19 years of age. Note:- David Childress married Lucy Gaines, daughter of Captain James Gaines. One of the daughters, Elizabeth, married William Hulme. The soldier was the son of John Childress of Surry County, North Carolina.
